Qjouren is a women’s shelter for women exposed to men’s violence and prostitution.
At Qjouren, there are no requirements for sobriety or being drug-free in order to receive support, protection, or information about your rights.
We currently operate as an open counselling and support centre, which means we do not provide emergency housing ourselves. However, we can help you connect with a shelter that can offer secure accommodation.
The women who work at Qjouren have in-depth knowledge of feminism, the mechanisms of violence, the process of leaving the relationship and healing from trauma. We also have specific expertise in harmful substance use, mental health, prostitution, and social exclusion.
Qjouren is the first in Sweden—and the only shelter in the Stockholm region—that does not require sobriety or drug abstinence to access our services and support.
Women who come to Qjouren have many different backgrounds, experiences, and life situations. Each woman decides for herself whether she wants contact with us only, or if she also wants support in connecting with other parts of the social support system. This might include help in reaching out to other organizations, social services, healthcare, or the justice system.
Professionals can also contact Qjouren—such as staff from social services, healthcare, or the legal system—seeking education, general information, or partnership inquiries.
Everyone who works at Qjouren is bound by a confidentiality agreement. No information about individual contacts is ever shared.
Qjouren is a politically independent organization, meaning we are not affiliated with any political party. We are also not connected to any religious group. Since the spring of 2019, we have been a member organization of Roks (the National Organisation for Women’s Shelters and Young Women's Shelters in Sweden). We work from a women-only, separatist perspective.
